Because of COVID-19, Indonesia imposed travel restrictions where only residents could enter Indonesia. On top of this, Indonesian authorities even paused visa applications from outside of Indonesia for a time. But it is now possible to apply for a visa for Bali again if you meet certain conditions, even if you are not in Indonesia.

Below we detail the steps and requirements to get a business visa or social visa to go to Bali. 

Who can apply for a visa for Bali?

To apply for a visit visa for Bali, you must have an Indonesian sponsor. Companies sponsor business visas. For the social visa, the sponsor can be an individual or a company. Additionally, you must be able to provide a bank statement under your name with a balance of at least USD 1,500.

You must also have a reason to travel to Bali and you must indicate this when requesting a recommendation letter:

• For business visa: business activities such as investment or meetings
• For social visa: humanitarian, family, or social reasons

Many companies offer visa sponsorships. Note, however, immigration may request information regarding your relationship with your sponsor. As such, you need to be careful when choosing a company to be your visa sponsor.

Getting a recommendation letter from the BKPM

As indicated above, the BKPM recommendation letter is a requirement to apply for a visa to go to Bali.

To get one, your sponsor must prepare a request letter and submit it to the BKPM office in Jakarta in person. The BKPM accepts a limited number of applications each day. Traveling to Bali with your Business or Social Visa

At the time of writing, the only point of entry for foreigners is through Jakarta International Airport. This applies to foreign nationals intending to visit Bali.

Foreigners must also submit the following documents upon arrival to Indonesia:

• Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test. The test must not be older than 7 days at the time of entry to Indonesia.
• Health certificate. You must present a health certificate from your country of origin.

If you are unable to complete the above, you must undergo self-isolation as mandated by the Indonesian government.

Changing residency status in Bali

You can also change your residency status in Bali. For example, holders of a social visa can apply for a temporary stay permit (KITAS). Further, those with KITAS can apply for a permanent stay permit (KITAP).
